Paul Brahms is a painter living and working in his home town Portland, Maine. He holds a BFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design ( 1986).
His work follows in the tradition of American realism, as it applies to the contemporary environment. As in that tradition, the intrinsic narratives and dramas of the settings and objects within those settings, and the visual language of representing these, is the predominant objective/desire. The paintings are an attempt to meditate amid the chaos, of a technologically and aesthetically challenged environment, and in spite of an attention deficit consciousness. The veracity, and vivacity of his work forgoes detail and other strategic methods, in the hope of asserting some fraction of truthful insight into what is visible, without being swamped by complexity of science, theory, information.
