The Hole In The Head Review is committed to publishing the best contemporary poetry, photography, painting, sculpture, video, collage and other visual arts. The editors seek to publish emerging and established artists, photographers, and writers. We are committed to responding to submissions within 30 days of submission.
Please submit your work through our online submissions portal. The small fee we charge for online submissions helps to support The Hole In The Head Review in its mission to publish writers at all stages of their careers. Please include a brief bio with your submission.
Poetry: We are looking for poems that make us want to dance or, if dancing, stop and sit. We want to hear the music in your voice, strong & distinct. We admire form but not rigidity.
Please send no more than three poems at once, and upload them as a single file, no more than one poem per page. We accept simultaneous submissions; please inform us immediately If you need to withdraw part of your submission.
Hole In The Head Review reserves first North American serial rights. All rights revert to the author upon publication. If you republish your work in a print or other journal, please credit Hole In The Head Review for the first publication.
Visual Art and Photography:
We consider a wide range of visual art including but not limited to:
Visual art and photography submissions should each include:
A title for each piece (that matches the file name)
A blurb of 75 to 100 words to accompany each piece
Please submit no more than three photos in jpg format, no smaller than 5"x7". Keep the file sizes below 2 meg. If you can set the resolution, use 72 pixels per inch.
Do not submit more than three images at a time.
